It is more than 7 weeks since Ontario has implemented the medical emergency status, and the social distancing regulation. The inability to congregate to worship gives me a sense of loss. But many of us are utilizing IT technologies to keep in touch and to support one another. As well, many small groups are engaged in online Bible study and prayer groups. On Sundays, we have Bible reading and sermon sharing on St. Elizabeth’s website. Churchwardens provide their weekly report online. Furthermore, we have this little “Love in pandemic”alternate day sharing network. All these efforts have made our life during the lock down a bit more bearable, giving us a sense of “togetherness.”

Now that the pandemic in Ontario, especially that in the community, seems to be starting to be under control, and Ontario government is slowly, and gingerly lifting some of the restrictions. However, before the availability of an effective and safe vaccine, this covid-19 virus would be difficult to be totally eradicated.

Furthermore, the psychological sequelae of the pandemic and its negative economic impact will inevitably follow suit, such as anxiety, depression, and home violence. So let us continue our joint effort, to care for each other, to press on towards the goal to defeat this devil virus. And let us pray that we can get together to worship, to give thanks and to give praise to the Lord soon.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask the Cantonese ministry and small group leaders, to prepare ourselves, to plan or to modify existing plans, so that we can restart our work as soon as restrictions are lifted. More importantly, it is essential that we plan and prepare ourselves as to how to adapt to the new normality in our ministry.
